Independence Dates from Colonial Power
-Sierra Leone gained independence in 1961 from the British colonial power. They were the latest countries in Africa to finally gain independence. This new country was born at midnight exactly, while everyone gathered around Brookfields Playground in Freetown to watch this incredible moment happen, breaking into loud cheers. Now today, they have been independent for 54 years!

-The Ebola outbreak happened just last year officially declaring a state of emergency in July 2014. This outbreak has killed more than all other past Ebola outbreaks combined.
Up until March 14, 2015 this disease has killed 10,159 people in these countries: Sierra Leone, (where it was first confirmed as an outbreak) Liberia, Guinea, Nigeria, Mali, and the US. The total number of Ebola cases reported is more than 24,597 people falling ill. Ebola is the deadliest outbreak to date in West Africa.

Symptoms can include a sore throat, sudden fever, feeling very weak, and muscle pains. Sub stages can include vomiting, diarrhea, and not as common; external and internal bleeding. The disease can be spread through humans in direct contact is one already has infected blood, organs, or body fluids. It can be spread indirectly as well through contact with environments that are contaminated. Lastly, you can get Ebola from close contact with infected animals too. Some animals include, fruit bats, forest antelope, and chimpanzees.
The first claimed case of Ebola was traced back to a two-year-old toddler who died in December 2013, in Meliandou, a small village in east Guinea. Then after that, this outbreak quickly spread throughout Africa, and eventually reached America.
